Coral Protection

Clara and Karina will take you to the magical world of Coral Conservation. We'll start with some basic theory. We’re not marine biologists, but we are learning and studying, and we’ll share our knowledge with you. If you know more, we’re eager to learn as well! This project comes as a challenge for us, stepping outside the day dive plan to put ourselves on front lines to help and make a difference. After a general presentation, we jump in the water and lead you through one of activities:

CORAL MONITORING

Sometimes collecting data and monitoring changes on the reef is the most important and valuable activity you can as an ocean ambassador. We’ll learn to identify soft and hard corals, check their health status, and measure their abundance and biodiversity. We use a monitoring system that try to include as many information, so our data can be useful for Marine Biology students of BICU for their researches and future projects. Data collection is the base of every projects.

CORAL NURSERY CREATION

In collaboration with BICU in Bluefields, we learn how to create and maintain coral nurseries. it is essential to create more, develop different materials, and provide additional substrate for corals to grow independently or rescue fragments of coral and them stability.
